Novo Sancti Petri is a total resort complex built around a 36 hole, Ballesteros designed, golf course set alongside the stunning sandy beach of La Barrosa , near the small town of Chiclana , near Cadiz , on the unspoilt Costa de la Luz, on Spain 's Atlantic coast.

Chiclana is an agricultural and traditional town, with good wines and medicinal waters known as the "Springs of Fuente Amarga". It is easily accessible from Cadiz and the Costa del Sol . Its urban structure is typical of Andalusian style, with narrow streets and courtyards full of flowers. Chiclana preserves the most genuine customs and traditions of Low Andalucia: the processions, bullfighting, flamenco, wine production and the snacks at noon . All are part of the day-to-day life for residents of Chiclana.

There have been found prehistoric rests that tell us about the presence of man in this land since the Paleolithic era. In the Old Times, Chiclana, as the other centres of population in the Bay of Cádiz , has as historical references Gadir and Gades. The history of Chiclana has always been associated to the Gaditanian one. In Chiclana there exist vestiges from the old Western civilizations: Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman.

In 1303, Fernando IV donated Chiclana to the duke of Medina Sidonia, paving the way for its resettlement and its prosperity, by exploiting the riches of its orchards as well as of the sea.

Between history and legend, the little island of Sancti Petri seems unavoidably joined to the figure of Hercules. This islet has always had a mythical content, as the origin of civilization in the Bay of Cádiz .. Three thousand years ago, the Temple of Hercules would stand here. As far as this myth is concerned, two of the twelve works performed by Hercules would take place in this land.

During the Modern times, from 16th century on, Chiclana joined his development to the one of the Gaditanian Bay , at that time the centre of the trade with the American colonies. The discovery of America was very important for the development of Cádiz and the other cities in the Bay, Chiclana included. The era of greater splendour was 18th century.

Nowadays, after an important economic transformation starting in the 60s and 70s, Chiclana is a city with nearly 60,000 inhabitants, which enjoys an improving and diversified economy and an impressive touristic development, leader in the province of Cádiz .

In the XVIII century Chiclana experienced another period of prosperity thanks to the American trade in the Bay of Cadiz and the settlement of traders on its grounds.
Its main riches have always been agriculture, vine growing and the wine business. In 1876, it received the title of city.

The resort offers a comprehensive range of on site sporting facilities, restaurants, shops and essential services and is ideally placed for touring the historic cities of Jerez, Seville, Cordoba, Granada and unspoilt Andalucia, with its famous "white villages"(pueblos blancos). In its gastronomy, the Chiclana cabbage of Tagaminas stands out as well as the almond pies made by the Augustinian nuns. The interesting visit to the puppet factory shows puppets craftily dressed in typical Andalusian attire.

Off the coast of Chiclana , there is the island of Sancti-Petri , where the Phoenicians built the famous Hercules Temple . On top of its ruins, the Lighthouse and the Castle of Sancti-Petri were built, both in the XIII century. There, the musician from Cadiz , Manuel de Falla, conceived the music for his "Atlantis".

The resort is served by Jerez (35km), Gibraltar (100km) and Seville (135km) airports, with frequent and economical services from the UK .

Hiclana's surroundings have traditionally been summer residential areas. To this day, it maintains that character, as the different housing developments, which exist along its beaches, show.

La Barrosa, 8 km long. Enjoys an impeccable service infrastructure and is ideal for water sports and fishing. Close to this beach there is the tourist complex "Novo Sancti-Petri" which offers hotels, appartments, recreational center, as well as a wonderful golf course, designed by Severiano Ballesteros. Sancti Petri is also an excellent place for wind surfing.
