Orange Seasons

 Orange SeasonsI started working in Sixt Doha, Qatar, which is now one of the richest countries in the Gulf States due to the exploitation of large oil and gas fields. It’s a country where it seems that the whole year is summer. I experienced temperatures as high as 52 degree Celsius whilst renting out cars and checking them in. Every house, office and store has air condition which is very important as you cannot survive from the hot weather without it. You cannot stay even for an hour or two outside your door as it feels like your body is being cooked and your blood boiling whilst walking under the extreme heat of the sun. Nevertheless, whether it was humid, sand storm, winter (very short!) or summer . . .  through all these I managed to see the brighter side of each season. I enjoyed serving Sixt customers in Doha no matter how bad the weather was. It was all worth it just seeing that the customers were happy and satisfied by our service. Likewise, a great experience bringing myself closer to Arab people, learning how to respect their religion, culture and beliefs. It was a season for me to be grateful to the company for all the knowledge about the business and most importantly the friendship I have earned with different races.

After more than two years of working in Sixt Qatar, I moved to the UK to follow my wife in November of last year. With my work experience and the recommendation from my former bosses in Sixt Qatar & head office in Sixt Germany, I got a job at Sixt Heathrow. It was winter time when I started working in Sixt Heathrow. Meeting with new colleagues brought back the happy working moment I had in Sixt Qatar. However, with a heavy snow last year, it was a big challenge on my part to cope along with a little stress of being new in this country and company. Standing in the bus station waiting for the bus, going to work and coming home late at night frozen! I wish I could call or poke the sun from Qatar to visit the UK. I remember in Doha with friends, we used to wander inside the mall to feel cold where it’s totally different here, some people go inside the department stores to warm their body. Despite of the bad weather; even the snow storm could not stop us from renting the cars. Serving our customers was still being continued with high level of service, until such time that Heathrow Airport decided to shutdown their business temporarily. Learning new systems at work, getting along well with new co-workers, my body adjusting to the cold weather (that made me missing the hot weather in Doha) I may say that it was a season for me to be tough and say “These are all worth sacrificing”.

Today, winter bid goodbye for a while, spring now smiles to everyone and flowers will soon begin to bloom. There were tragic moments caused by the heavy storm last year but it’s time to look forward to more seasons of working to have fruits of our labour to reap in the next coming months. Spring, summer, fall, autumn, winter, all seasons they do come and go but we have no choice but to embrace the beauty of God’s creation. Like Sixt customers, they also come and go but the only choice we have is to accept the beauty of our business. Season changes but no matter what the season is, there will always be Sixt cheerful Staff facing the customers at the counter, holding the key ready to give them the car they desire. Sixt aspiration will continue to live by for us as long as people need a car and with Sixt there are great people to support their expedition.

Like our customers, we are all like travellers in our own journey seeking happiness. That life may be tough sometimes to endure but the most important thing is that we discover the purpose of our existence. The road we travel may be rough or smooth at times but these are all worth treasuring especially when it’s shared… I hope that you have your own story to share in this endless season to travel called Life…

Fog causes flight disruption

plane2 Fog causes flight disruptionReduced visability due to fog has lead to flights to/from both London City and Norwich airport experiencing delays.

London City Airport’s website is currently advising that passengers contact their airline for further information or visit their website for updates as flights are experiencing disruptions due to low visibility.

Delays are also possible to/from Norwich Airport due to the fog. Passengers can check the status of their flight online.

It is important to remember that extra care should be taken when driving in fog. Tips and advice on how to stay safe when driving in extreme weather is available from the Highways Agency.

Regine Sixt Wins Travel Industry Club Award

Regine Sixt has received the Travel Industry Club Award, the most esteemed award in the travel industry. Regine Sixt received the award on the eve of ITB, the world’s leading travel trade show, as part of the Award Night 2011 in Berlin.

Regine Sixt was granted the award in the “Travel Hall of Fame national” category. Just three years ago, Erich Sixt also received the distinguished award, making Erich and Regine Sixt the first married couple to be inducted into the “Travel Hall of Fame”.

Regine Sixt explains the reasons behind her receiving the award:

“Because, in my function as Chairwoman of the German National Tourist Board (DZT), I have been promoting tourism in Germany for decades now. Because I have a brilliant husband, who does a fantastic job of managing the company.

Because I have two great sons who are leading the business into the fourth generation. Because 5,000 employees stand firmly behind me and because millions of customers trust us.“

Regine Sixt has been a major force in writing Sixt’s success story and was therefore also appointed Honorary Senator of BVMW (German Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises).

New rental desk at Stansted Airport

New Stansted Rental DeskReaders of the Sixt blog will remember that back in January we announced that new rental locations would be opening at Stansted and Edinburgh Airports. We can now announce that the brand new office within the arrivals terminal at Stansted Airport will open next week as part of our continued expansion across the UK.

As current renters will be aware, Sixt have operated from a rental centre outside of the main terminal building at Stansted Airport for many years. The new office will open for the first time on the 1st of March offering the typical Sixt fleet of high quality rental vehicles. At Sixt, we are renowned for offering top of the range cars in all groups, something which sets us aside from our competitors, this includes the fantastic VW Polo Bluemotion which is exempt from the London Congestion Charge. Keep an eye on the ‘Sixt News’ section of the blog for updates on the new Audi A1 that is due to come on fleet within the next weeks!

Stansted is one of the UK’s most important travel hubs with over 20 million passengers passing through every year. The new branch within the arrivals hall, will ensure a Sixt representative is immediately available allowing our customers to pick-up their vehicle without any delays. As of 1 March we will also be extending the opening hours of the branch to 06.00 – 23.00, 7 days a week.

We are extremely excited about the opening of the new location and it shows the commitment that the company has to improving both the rental facilities and the service that we offer to our customers. Bollywood comes to Rotherham

Bollywood EveningThe Orient Express Restaurant in Rotherham will be hosting a special Bollywood Charity Dinner on Friday 4 March to help to raise funds for the AHS Foundation. 

Tickets are priced at £20 and include a 3 course authentic dinner, entertainment, a raffle, auction and disco. All the proceeds from the event will go directly to the AHS Foundation, who provide support to communities which have been devastated by natural disasters. The proceeds from this particular event will assist in improving the facilities at the Medical Centre at Noon Bagla in Pakistan, the home village of one of the Orient Express’s chefs.

The evening kicks off at 7pm and anyone who has visited The Orient Express before, will know that this should be a brilliant night. The family run restaurant is open 7 days a week from 5pm until midnight and 5pm until 1am on a Friday and Saturday. Having recently undergone major refurbishment, the venue is spacious and modern and can certainly compete against local hotels and function rooms for those larger parties you may have planned – hence the number of weddings that The Orient Express now cater for.

 Bollywood comes to Rotherham

The a la carte menu contains an excellent choice of dishes and should you not be familiar with any of the dishes on the menu, the staff are more than happy to take you through the ingredients and the preparation of the dish and recommend various options based on your likes and dislikes.  If you want to sample a range of dishes you could always opt for the buffet menu, which is also available 7 days a week. Here you have a number of starters to chose from such as various salads, onion bahjis, chicken tikka and meat samosa’s and a diverse selection of mains with additional vegetarian options. The good thing about this is that you can try as much or as little as you like and if there is one particular dish that takes your fancy then there’s nothing stopping you going back for more – you can go back as many times as you like!

Licence scam – don’t be a victim

logo dvla Licence scam   dont be a victimThe DVLA have issued a warning about an email scam targeted at drivers. An email is currently being circulated which asks drivers to use an online link to verify their driving licence details.

With a subject heading of ‘Update Your License Details’ the email appears to be official and to have been sent by the DVLA. This is not from the DVLA and drivers are being warned not to reply to the email and to delete it immediately.

Falsely stating that ‘Drivers that refuses to upgrade his or her details within two weeks of receiving this verification email will lose his or her driver’s License and will have to take a fresh driving test’ the email seems to be an attempt to trick driver’s into divulging their personal details.
