Friday, February 24th, 2012Iberia has cancelled 117 flights today in another 24 hour strike by SEPLA pilots who are protesting against the plans to set up a new low-cost carrier Iberia Express.
This represents 34% of the total number of Iberia flights today with most of the cancelled services being national. Others to Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, Munich, Zurich, Geneva, Frankfurt, Berlin, Istanbul, Rome, Lisbon, Milan and Venice are also affected as well as long haul services to New York, Mexico, Tel Aviv, Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo.
The next day of strike action is Wednesday February 29th when there is likely to be even more disruption as the pilots will be joined by the ground and cabin crew staff unions. They are also planning more strikes in March.

More Iberia Flights Cancelled Today
Monday, February 20th, 2012Iberia has cancelled 153 flights today as the SEPLA pilots union goes on another 24 hour strike in protest at the creation of the low-cost carrier Iberia Express.
Most of the flights affected are domestic services but there are cancellations to some international destinations. 21 of the cancellations are between Madrid and Barcelona with minimum services covering all flights between the Canary and Balearic Islands to the Spanish mainland.
More strikes are planned for February 24th and 29th.
