Arguineguin Carnival 2012 (Costa Mogan)

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Mogan town hall have announced the dates for the Carnaval Costa Mogan 2012 (Arguineguin) so get ready to party from Thursday 23rd February – Sunday 26th February. As of yet there is no official poster or program but we will add it to this post once available.

The theme, very similar to that of Las Palmas Carnival is “Superheroes” so you can even re-use your costume if you are attending both!

The Grand Parade is Saturday afternoon, starting around 19:00h from near the High School in Arguineguin, where themed floats and carnival goers begin dancing through the village and ending in the Market Square. It’s fun for for the whole family and if you are on holiday in Puerto Rico or nearby you should not miss out!

With 4 days and nights of fun, there is plenty to do, so join in the fun and let your hair down as the spirit of carnival envelopes the village. The burial of the sardine on Sunday is also a quirky feature of the fiesta, which symbolizes the end of the party by setting fire to a huge, fish decoration and a firework display for all.

Most of the festivities will be in the main market square, with stages, music, bands and chiringuitos providing tasty grills and fairground snacks.

If you want to register a float/carroza for Carnival Costa Mogan the deadline is 17th February, for more information contact: 928.15.88.05 extension 1204

A kind note: We work hard to bring you the latest info on Gran Canaria Blog, so you can plan in advance for events and be up to date with the latest news on the island, if you copy this information onto a forum/website, please link back to GCBlog to avoid plagiarism.

Las Palmas Carnival Costume Idea – Transformers

Monday, January 30th, 2012

With just days to go until the beginning of the Carnival season here in Gran Canaria, you may feel a bit stuck for costume ideas. The theme of Las Palmas Carnival is Comic Book Heroes and we thought this video of someone in a ‘Bumblebee’ Transformers costume may inspire you. It’s awesome but keep watching til the end!

Everyday of the festival there will be expositions of video consoles, comic books, Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh card games and video games.

If you have ever wanted to learn Japanese, calligraphy or origami, then check out the ‘Japanese School’ too.

The price of entry is 4€ per day or the full 3 days for 8€. Click here for more information on Festival del Manga Las Palmas 2011.

UPDATE:

We checked out the Manga Festival this Sunday and it was great to see so many people with an appreciation for Manga and cosplay. We watched a presentation explaining the history of cosplay, browsed some of the stalls and watched the cosplay contest, in which we were thoroughly entertained – especially by the Ron Weasley Brothers and the Pokemon cosplay.

As always it’s fantastic to see so many events happening on our island of Gran Canaria, and we hope to attend the next one.
